AN ASPIRING golfer is appealing for businesses to help realise his sporting dream to compete against the world’s best.

Nick Lister, of Laughterton, near Gainsborough, is looking to get his career off the ground as a professional

The 28-year-old plays on the Jamega Pro tour, but to progress further he needs financial help from Lincolnshire firms.

In return, he is offering sponsorship and advertising opportunities as he competes across the UK.

He said: “The problem comes with being able to travel to all tournaments on the tour. They can cost Pounds 220 just to enter.

“I would be grateful for financial help and in return could offer advertising on my clothing worn throughout tournaments and practice days or on my car during tournaments.”

Having started to attract some sponsorship, Nick, who practises at Lincoln Golf Club, said he will find opportunities for businesses whatever their level of investment.

He said: “I would also make myself available for corporate events, company golf days or maybe even in corporate raffles providing golfing lessons, among other possibilities.” He eventually hopes to become good enough to play on the European challenge tour and then compete with some of the world’s best on the main European tour.

He said: “It’s a lot of hard graft, especially getting your head around playing for money and treating the sport like a business rather than a hobby.

“I have to be professional in my approach from training and management as well as in competition.”

Nick previously studied sport science at Teesside University and is fully aware of what it will take physically, mentally and financially to reach the top.

Steve Williamson, who coaches the young golfer, says he is more than capable of success.

He said: “Lads like Nick need a lucky break.

Without it, you get talented young players effectively competing with a leash around their neck.”
